2/18/2023 0 Comments Thor enemies![]() The entire concept of Spider-Man: No Way Home was that the villains could all be redeemed and cured, which they all promptly were. In Eternals, Ikaris was going to destroy the world but then couldn't as he loved Sersi too much. In Shang-Chi, Wenwu was also driven by a personal loss and when push came to shove, he helped out Shang-Chi and sacrificed himself. In Black Widow it was Taskmaster, who's revealed to been programmed to be bad and is snapped free from it at the end. The villains to date have been doing terrible things, yet you can understand their reasoning and by the end, they're generally redeemed. Perhaps because of the success of Thanos and his twisted but logical reasoning, Phase 4 seems to have been on a mission to replicate the pattern. The problem is that we've seen the same pattern with pretty much every other Phase 4 movie villain. It's a change from the comics and a solid arc for Gorr, who is easily the most interesting villain of the Thor movie series to date. However, he certainly sees the error of his ways and his final action wasn't anywhere near as catastrophic as he initially planned. You can't say Gorr was fully redeemed given that he a) killed a bunch of gods resulting in the collapse of several societies and a lot of deaths as a result and b) kidnapped a bunch of kids to carry out his plan. Gorr brings his daughter back to life with his wish, but still dies as a result of the Necrosword infecting him when he was using it. Gorr reaches Eternity, but is persuaded by Thor that what he's always been searching for is love and not vengeance. His aim, initially, is to reach Eternity, which will grant him his desire to wipe out all gods in the universe, but Gorr's daughter is involved in the movie's finale. Throughout the movie, Gorr makes references to his daughter and it adds an element of sympathy to his otherwise-monstrous actions. ![]() He picks it up, slaughters Rapu and vows to kill all gods – which he does a very good job of until he decides to target Thor and co in Asgard. ![]() Unfortunately for Rapu, the Necrosword – which was lying on the floor nearby after Rapu killed its former owner – calls to Gorr. He begs for his eternal reward which Rapu cruelly tells him is all nonsense, meaning Gorr's daughter (among others) died for nothing. Gorr hears something calling to him though, and he finds an oasis with water and fruit where he also meets his god Rapu. Gorr's plea to his god is to no avail and his daughter dies, with Gorr not far from death either. Thor: Love and Thunder's striking cold open sees Gorr struggling to survive with his daughter on his barren home planet.
